Hello RE families!

Can you believe it? The holiday season is in full swing, which means….
We’re making plans to attend Spring Youth Cons at our southeastern UU retreat center: The Mountain in beautiful Highlands, North Carolina!

Never visited The Mountain? Check it out here: http://themountainrlc.org

The Mountain, founded by Unitarian Universalists in 1979, is a non-profit year-round ecologically conscious retreat and learning center serving churches, businesses, non-profits, schools, and other groups.

Located on 4,200 foot high granite cliffs on the Eastern Continental Divide in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we offer a very unique opportunity – come refresh your spirit in the natural beauty of a mountaintop.

A Youth CONference is a gathering of Unitarian Universalist youth and advisors from congregations all over the southeast (and sometimes beyond!) for a weekend program filled with a variety of workshops, activities, good food, a safe environment and warm, cozy cabins. Youth participate in all the activities, share with new friends in small get-to-know-you groups, bond during free time, contribute to times of fun and reflection and grow spiritually through worship.

Children and youth participating in Youth CONferences attend as a part of a congregational sponsored group. Volunteering adult advisors, volunteering Peer Advocate Leaders (PALs), volunteering PAL Mentors, and Mountain Staff work together to supervise the youth.

Here are the Spring Con dates:

March 10-12
Elementary Con
(3rd-5th graders)

March 17-19
Intermediate Con
(6th-8th graders)

March 31-April 2
Senior High Con
(9th-12th graders)

The cost for kids to attend a Con is $100, but our generous congregation pays half the cost for each child from the UUCC who attends.

Please let me know ASAP if your child is interested in attending a Con! (No worries if you aren’t 100% certain. I’m simply getting an idea of how many kids may attend, and how many chaperones we may need.)

In addition….we’ll need Youth Advisors (chaperones) for each Con: one same sex Advisor for every 4 children/youth attending. (Example: if we have 5 girls and 2 boys for the Intermediate Con, we would need 2 female Advisors and 1 male Advisor.) All Youth Advisors submit to a background check, paid for by RE. Youth Advisors drive their own cars to/from The Mountain, but their Con registration fees and transportation costs are covered by RE.

Thanks! Remember to contact me at dre@uucc.org if your child is interested in attending. And be sure to let me know if you’d be interested in serving as a Youth Advisor.
