Katie Claiborne is a painter who lives and works in Chattanooga, TN. She received her BFA from East Tennessee State University in 2003. Afterward, she spent a year studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and went on to finish her MFA at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Since her graduation, she has continued to pursue and develop her work. Her paintings and drawings, which are primarily portraits of the people she sees every day, have been included in many regional and several national exhibitions. Most recently, her work was included in Radiance at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. Her work has also been shown at The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC, and The Kitchen and The Painting Center in NYC.
Katie is also a teacher. She has taught painting and drawing classes, and served as an instructor and a visiting artist, at several regional colleges and universities. These include: Catawba College, Elon College, The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Chattanooga State, and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She currently teaches visual art at Hixson High School.
