Ascend, 36 x 36, Oil

The Art-On-The-Walls artist for May and June, 2017 is Cara Halenar. The North River artist was featured in the 2015 AVA All-Member Salon Show.

Her education includes graduation from Southern Methodist University followed by design study at Portfolio Center, an Atlanta-based advertising school. Cara states that the professor of a painting class encouraged her to find her own unique style, while the training in Atlanta instilled a love of color.

She describes growing up with a painter father and a designer mother who surrounded her with art. Her parents furnished Cara and her sister with “all the materials one could possibly use to create just about anything imaginable.”

Cara adds, “Maya, my 10-year old daughter, is my muse and influences a lot of the energy and imagination that drive my work. Her sense of wonder and enthusiasm are contagious. My passion for painting stems from a need to express what I see in my mind and feel in my heart. It is ultra-intuitive. I hope to not only transport the viewer to another reality, but to invite them to stay awhile, or just cause them to feel lighter, happier, or more at peace.”
