Petrichor, Photosynthesis, and Decay: A Naturalist's Perspective on Resurrection

Speaker: Rev Mandy
What if resurrection isn’t about defying nature—but participating in it?

This Easter, we explore grief, memory, and transformation through the lens of the natural world. From the smell of rain on dry earth, to the unseen miracle of photosynthesis, to the quiet power of decay and compost, we consider how energy moves, changes, and continues.

Drawing on psychology, personal experience, and a deep skepticism of empire-shaped theology, this reflection invites us to reconsider what the resurrection story might have meant—and what it might still mean now.

Maybe the miracle isn’t that something came back.

Maybe the miracle is that something continues.

Nominate a Local Group for Donate the Plate, 2026-27 Year

UUCC has a long history of supporting other local groups doing good in our community. Donate the Plate happens the third Sunday of each month. The entire offertory collected goes to a specified local organization to help sustain their mission. We seek ideas from the members of our congregation for worthy not-for-profits in Hamilton County. Once the nominations are gathered, the Social Justice Committee will make the final selections and create the Donate the Plate calendar for the fiscal year, July 2026-June 2027.

Look for the nomination sheet in the fellowship area starting April 5. You can also send your nomination to judygallagher@uucc.org. Organizations must have a physical place a check can be mailed to; and be a local group, not a national organization. Please provide an address or website and/or phone number. Deadline for submissions is April 30.
