Getting to Know UU

in Poetry

With Steve Hollingsworth, Ian Seaton, Dylan Kussman, Gale Audier and Sam Howard
UUCC has had poets as long as we have existed. The broader UU movement also treasures its poets. This Sunday we highlight UUCC poets Nancy Beel, who was clearly UUCC's poet laureate from 2009 until shortly before her death in 2016; Ian Seaton, a UUCC member and published poet from California, whose latest book just came out last month; and Sam Howard, who is just getting started as a poet. Poets Mary Oliver, Lynn Ungar, and Jane Kenyon will also be featured. Dylan Kussman will emcee and read some of his haikus he posted on BlueSky. The vibe will be lowkey. Continental breakfast items and a few other treats will be available after the service.
This final Forum of the year, Sunday, December 28, was going to be a recap of AI for the year, but, one of the adjacent areas of AI is robotics. Since we haven't discussed the implications of smart robots on our lives... Let's dive in!
As a primer, a few questions:
1. What does it mean to have an "intelligent" robot?
2. What would you expect it to do for you?
3. What lines do you draw when thinking about a robot in your life?
Come and imagine the future, for good or not so good!
Looking forward to seeing you!

Rev. Mandy Delays Return to Care for Son

Rev. Mandy's son Isaiah was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident almost two months ago. Severe injuries, including to his brain, have resulted in extensive treatments. He is now undergoing care at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, one of the nation's top rehabilitation centers. Rev. Mandy has been living in an apartment there so she can be part of his daily treatments. They hope he'll be ready to return home December 30, but will require more physical therapy and care.

Rev. Mandy has requested to change her return day from the beginning of January, to February 1 so she can manage Isaiah's care. The Board of Trustees and Personnel Committee are working on the details. Our wonderful WOWZER (Working on Worship) Committee has agreed to plan more inspiring Sunday services through January.

Rev. Mandy is deeply grateful for all the well wishes, cards, and good thoughts UUCC has been sending her way. Please continue to keep Isaiah and the entire Goheen family in your thoughts.

UUCC Peace Dove Banners

An Exhibit by UUCC Members and Friends

This is the seventh year UUCC has displayed member-created Peace Dove banners during winter holidays. In 2018, Lynne Higgins called for members talented in fabric art to create dove-themed banners.

The banners displayed this year are created by Lynne Higgins, Jen Horning, Leslie O'Rear, Diana Solomon, and Leila and Tori Rose.
