In Flanders Fields

On May 3, 1915, Lt. Col. John McCrae penned the iconic poem In Flanders Fields after presiding over the funeral of a fallen friend. In the churned soil of fresh graves, he saw poppies blooming—a flash of red amid the sorrow of war. Today, poppies remain a powerful symbol of remembrance, their vibrant color echoing through Memorial Day traditions.
At UUCC, we honor this spirit through our own sacred practice: the annual Memorial Garden Dedication. Much like the Appalachian tradition of Decoration Day, this is a time to care for sacred spaces, share stories, and reconnect with the memory of those who came before us. Join us as we reflect, remember, and plant poppies of love in honor of lives that continue to shape our community.

Who Wants to Help with UUCC at Pride????

Chattanooga Pride is Saturday, September 27

We need a group of folks to start planning our participation at the festival and parade! What might that entail? Making sure UUCC is registered for both the parade and the festival. Recruiting participants to staff a table and march in the parade. This committee might come up with giveaways for the parade. Will we have a wagon? Will we have bubbles, noise makers, and rainbow costumes? Flags for our walkers? What brochures, tokens to give away at the table?
All the “stuff.” If you’re interested in helping, please write to either
Judy Gallagher at judygallagher@uucc.org or Charlotte Olson at charlotteolson@uucc.org
REconnect Nature School is now offering tutoring services! If you need Summer Tutoring, they are offering tutoring for all subjects for Upper Elementary, Middle, and High School as well as Test Prep! Art on the Walls May 2025
Spring Joy by Jen Horning

A SPRING PALETTE:

An exhibit of fiber art

and photography

In celebration of Spring, UUCC members and friends have created quilts and banners to adorn our walls. A collection of photographs of spring ephemerals accompanies the sewn, woven and quilted art. The artists have used pastel colors to evoke the awakening and emergence of new growth.

The creators are Jen Horning, Cindy Collins, Carol Hobbs, Emily Compton, and Maria Derrick (photography).

Most art is for sale. The percentage of proceeds donated to UUCC is indicated on the wall label.
