County Mayor Tries to Sell the BDC and Gut Small Business Programs
The following is from Konstantin Chinkov, a member of our congregation and a local small business owner.
Dear UUCC members and friends,
The county mayor’s office is currently trying to sell the BDC ( Business Development Center ) building located on 100 Cherokee Blvd. The BDC is where a lot of local small businesses go for aid through programs, grants, and office space. The biggest program of which is the Chattanooga Incubator, many locals are aware of this program since it’s the 3rd biggest program of its kind in the United States. It has helped build many local businesses that are still active and employing a large amount of the people in Hamilton County. There’s no plan for another building to relocate to and they will try to put this on the books during this Wednesday's County Commissioner board meeting . After notifying BDC staff on Monday ( just a few hours ago ). This is the sort of thing that I think people will want to know about and may want to contact the local commissions office to voice their concerns. David Sharpe is the name of the commissioner that’s in charge of District 6 (where the BDC is located).

Myself and a group of small business owners will be at the county board meeting this Wednesday and we will all wear orange shirts to show a small percentage of the people that this will impact negatively.
I just ask that people call and email the county, but if they are really wanting to show support they are more than welcome to come to the county board session on Wednesday. I personally think that they are trying to sneak this in very last minute since the county mayor and all of the commissioners are up for re-election this year and the early voting starts Wednesday.

The county commissioner's meeting will take place on:
Wednesday, April 15th ( 2026) - 625 Georgia Ave, 4th Floor, Room 402, Chattanooga, TN at 5pm, but people should plan to be there by 4:30 pm.
To me this is a really reprehensible act since there's no plan in place to relocate the BDC.
I normally don’t like to get involved in politics, but sadly I don’t trust the bureaucrats at all to do the right thing. I will be very busy talking to the news, and the paper, as well as organizing local businesses. But if you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or text me, my cell phone number is 813-476-9343. It may take me a moment or two to respond, but I will make sure to reply to any questions.

Thank you and I appreciate you taking and interest in this issue.
