Greetings UUCC Community!

Searching for Justice Tour

The UUCC Social Justice Committee is planning to travel to see the sites where history was made and justice was served. Learn the civil rights stories and the impact of past civil rights battles that provided more rights to the oppressed. On separate trips, we hope to visit Montgomery/Selma, Birmingham and Atlanta. Trips will be open to all, ages 10 and above. Children 10-17 will need a responsible adult traveling that will be responsible for them. Logistics are challenging and pending.

We need your help in deciding what to do first, and if there is even enough interest.

We’d like to go to Montgomery and Selma, AL Oct 16-17, 2026. This is the end of the fall school break. Because of the distance (4 hours), it would be overnight. Preliminary cost estimate is $230ish pp, double occupancy that would include either a 28- or 56-person bus with driver and lodging, and entry fees. (Bus cost is only slightly less for smaller bus.) Food is on your own. No guarantee at this point of any portion being underwritten by UUCC, or a generous donor. (Note: Larger bus...we would invite another church or two to join us perhaps.)

IF we rent a 12-person van, the cost estimate is about $170 per person, double occupancy for van/gas, hotel, entry fee. Food on your own. (NOTE: Cost per person in all scenarios for a single room would be higher as need to cover entire cost of room.) WE WOULD NEED A DRIVER.

In Montgomery, the sites:

Birmingham, AL would be a day tour. If we rent a large bus, the estimate is about $125 per person without the lodging. Food on your own. 12-person van, cost estimate $60/person. Who would drive?

Atlanta Civil Rights Museum--a day trip to Atlanta to the civil rights district. Cost estimate is $150 with bus. Rented 12-person van similar to Birmingham, $60. Food on your own. Who would drive?

Look for an interest indicator at church the next two weeks, March 15 and 22. Would you go? How many people would be in your group? This is not a sign-up or obligation, just a way to guide us in our planning.

Won’t be at church the next two weeks, but want to weigh in?
