"We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak" ~ Rev. Dr. King. Humility of Self, Humility of Context, Humility of Culture is the theme of this MLK Sunday. How might we travel with humility in our everyday lives on a journey to a beloved community?

Many of you know that Jennifer Dornbush is receiving cancer treatment. What she would like most from UUCC? A successful January food drive! Let's make the bins overflow next Sunday (Jan 26) with food donations. And, any funds collected in the offertory on THIS Sunday (Jan 19) will be donated to the Food Bank.

On Sunday, January 19, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank receive our Donate-The-Plate offering. We will also distribute paper food bags for you to use to collect your food donation.
On Sunday, January 26, please bring in your food donation for the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to Stock Our Shelves. Food needs are at an all time high and we can help the Food Bank restock their supplies.

We will continue collecting food every month for the Food Bank. Look for the donation box on the fourth Sunday of each month. Please also consider volunteering at The Food Bank. They need help sorting and packing food boxes, and distributing food at the Foxwood Food Center. We have heard from several of you who are volunteering, so THANKS! Questions? Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sunday, January 19
On the eve of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, posters are displayed honoring MLK, Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, John Lewis, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. MLK was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society.
Coretta S. King supported the civil rights movement and her husband in many ways, including fund-raising for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In l955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passenger. The resulting Montgomery Bus Boycott was led by Martin Luther King, Jr. and ended with a Supreme Court ruling that desegregated public buses.
